To learn a little more about the firm’s approach and the types of project that it is best known for, we spoke with Ricky Simmonds, Construction Director for ,Fortis Vision, who said: “We like to deliver the impossible. We’ve proven that fact by taking on the projects that other contractors have either not had the capability to carry out or have shied away from. But by doing that, we’ve managed to earn the trust of existing clients in terms of repeat work, which is specifically because we take on those complex, difficult projects within refurbishment.
“We don’t just take on the ‘easy work’, but also things like: conversions of offices to purpose-built student accommodation; creating studios and bedrooms in existing amenity spaces; converting ground-floor restaurants and retail units into amenity spaces, receptions, or residential areas; or taking on large MEP projects where we interface the distribution of hot water via air source heat pumps and smart controls for electric heaters.”
Alongside its broad capabilities, Fortis Vision is also a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), with which it has been a member since 2019, thereby offering considerable assurances to the client. As a CCS member, Fortis Vision takes all aspects of considerate construction incredibly seriously, with emphasis on three key areas: health and safety, sustainability, and interaction with the local community (both interior and exterior to the project site). This culminated in Fortis Vision winning an award at their 2026 National Site Awards held in Manchester.
On the health and safety front, Fortis Vision is one of the most experienced refurbishment contractors for in-occupation schemes, with the firm having a robust approach to segregation, the timing of works (typically one floor or zone at a time), and communication with those living or working around the site on where disruptions or risks could emerge. This is further supported by a clear commitment to mental health, with the firm rolling out welfare provisions and a culture of openness to demonstrate just how seriously the issue is taken.
Regarding sustainability, Fortis Vision is part way through a robust ESG strategy, with a clear roadmap for the future. As of writing, the firm already produces robust emissions reports across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, with efforts now being made to delve into sustainability down throughout the supply chain network; and importantly, not via offsetting, but via green building practices backed up by transparent tracking and reporting of all environmental issues.
“We don’t want to be a company that simply pays to offset emissions and we’re therefore conducting a full supply chain analysis to look at where materials are coming from, how they get into the country, how they get to the site and how the workforce come onto the site” commented Ricky. “99% of our site waste from our refurbishment projects are recycled and we can track our water, gas, and electricity usage which is shown transparently to the client”
Going forward, Fortis Vision comes off the back of sustainable growth since the establishment of the company, with the firm seeking to take advantage of new and emerging opportunities in the hospitality sector to accompany ongoing projects for existing clients such as Travelodge alongside key partner, IH Group.
