Mental Health Matters
World Mental Health Day is recognised every year on the 10th October and this year the focus is on access to services, highlighting the importance of people being able to protect their mental health because every deserves good mental health.
The Lighthouse Charity, reports that 20% of all work-related illnesses in construction are due to stress, depression or anxiety. The nature of our work and how we often work away from home can bring about feelings of stress, loneliness and isolation.
At Fortis Vision, we encourage our teams to support each other, we have specially trained Mental Health First Aiders who are on hand to provide support and signpost people for guidance should it ever be needed. We are registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, that aims to improve the standards of the construction industry, and we take the responsibility of promoting mental health awareness seriously via training, best practice and tool box talks.
Nikki Todd, Managing Director at Fortis Vision said “We know that there is still a stigma attached to speaking up freely and openly about our mental health and wellbeing and we should all speak openly about how we are feeling. Mental health is just as important as physical health and I would encourage our office and site teams to hold open and honest discussions around mental health with each other”
“At Fortis Vision, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive workplace, where open conversations about mental health are encouraged—because the cost of staying silent can be unimaginable.”
There are various organisation providing mental health support including Mind Samaritans and Mental Health Foundation
